 About Me  My name is Kristy Dixon. I received my Bachelors degree in Education and Masters degree in Educational Psychology, both from Texas A&M University. I am currently working on becoming a Certified Coach for Parents through the Academy of Coaching for Parents Institute, LLC. I will complete all the requirements by the end of May 2009. I live in Carrollton, Texas with my wonderful husband and our daughter (born in October, 2006) our son (born in June, 2009). I was a teacher for 3 years in Lewisville ISD (1st grade for one year then 2nd grade for 2 years). After that, I became the part-time school counselor at the same elementary school I taught at in LISD. However, because my position went full time I chose to resign and be a stay-at-home mom and become a member of the Carrollton Early Childhood PTA. I am not ready to stop counseling and helping parents and children so being a parent coach is the next, natural progressive step in my life to help me hold onto something I love outside of the home. As a school counselor, when I had completed my sessions with a child I was to refer them to an outside counselor or psychologist. However, sometimes I felt that the child would not really benefit from counseling until the parents got help with their parenting skills first. I would find myself naturally coaching parents when I met with them to discuss their child’s progress. In my experience in the schools I never found a parent who didn't love their children more than themselves. They just didn't know how to talk to them or how to meet their needs. In turn, they got frustrated and just gave up or gave in. Let me guide you to discover what your child's needs are and how to better communicate with them so you both get what you want.
